An Embarrassing End to an Ignominious Season

The LA Dodgers just got eliminated in three games from the MLB playoffs. They got swept. It was an appropriate end to a season marked by shame.  Due to the fact they hosted and honored the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in June, the Dodgers’ 2023 elimination takes on new meaning.  Remember, the Dodgers initially invited the Sisters, then they thought better and withdrew the invite, only to cower to activists and re-invite the Sisters. So in the end, the Dodgers chose a group dedicated to mockery of religious nuns and hatred of Catholicism over common decency and respect. Therefore, they are not an organization worthy of success and fans. And I urge all Catholic and Christian Dodgers fans to take some time and seriously consider the offense committed by celebrating an...

No Laughing Matter

Whenever the Raiders are in LA, Raider Nation shows up big. And this past Sunday was no exception as the Silver and Black battled the Chargers at SoFi. Someone I know was there. And he didn't sit just anywhere. He sat right here. That is section VIP 131, Row 7 in front of the 43-yard line. Here are shots from down there. Confession

I was raised Catholic and have been practicing all my life, including Mass every Sunday. In August of 2021, I started attending the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) also known as the Tridentine Latin Mass. Yesterday I went to Confession for the second time in a month. I confessed the last of my old serious sins (in the faith, we call them mortal sins). I also confessed a couple minor new sins. Afterwards I felt at peace and completely worthy to receive the Body of Christ. It’s deeply humbling and embarrassing. And I am still a work in progress. Salvation requires work. I have no doubt whatsoever our priests are authorized to forgive sins and change the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. Their authority comes from the Church which traces it beginnings to the Ap...

How Bad Does It Have to Get Before Ideologues Get It?

On Tuesday, August 11th, Presidential Candidate Joe Biden (D) selected U.S. Senator Kamala Harris for his Vice Presidential running mate. Immediately, Trumpists and socialists alike went on the the attack. In response to those on the far ends of the spectrum, I offer the following. For some people, politics is an abstraction. Their zealous ideology blinds them from how bad things really are. They can’t see others who are suffering under the cruelty of the Trump presidency. There are many suffering, documented and undocumented alike. Democrat candidates and the Democratic Party are the only ones with a chance at replacing the Trump administration at this present time. Yet left-wing ideologues are so rigid they demand perfection. Ideologues will point to flaws in Biden and Harr...

Was Trump Vaccinated?

Donald Trump is a draft dodger who hid in the White House's underground bunker two weeks ago, fearing the protesters outside his gates. In 2017, he admitted to being a germaphobe. Many would agree that he's one of the most cowardly and fearful men to ever be president. Yet despite his phobia of germs and despite his fears in general, Trump was still shaking hands with both friends and strangers alike into March of this year. This was despite warnings from health experts that hand shaking should be avoided because it increases the risk of COVID-19 infection. Source: Trump was Vaccinated And despite Trump being very aware of COVID-19's potential spread in the US, he and Mike Pence attended the Conservative Political Action Conference at the end of February where ...

In His Ongoing Struggle with Autism, My Brother Never Gives Up

Fifth grader Little V was recently given the assignment to write about somebody in her life that's a positive influence. She wrote the following about her younger brother who has autism. This is posted today in recognition of National Brother's Day, May 24, 2020 and to build further awareness for all developmentally disabled people. Positive Influence Speech  The person who has a positive influence in my life is my brother, Peter. He is 8 years old and has autism.  My brother is not like any other 8 year old brother.  My brother has many struggles. These struggles impact his life every single day.  He has digestive issues, which means his belly hurts a lot. He cannot eat dairy, and he can't eat gluten. He can't eat carbs or sugar a lot. This elimina...

Enjoy It While It Lasts: Gas Prices Have Already Bottomed

On New Year's Day, gas prices in California averaged about $3.59 a gallon. Through January and February, prices drifted down a little. But during the week of March 10th, the world started to change. Panic over the COVID-19 pandemic set in. On March 19th, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statewide "Stay at Home" order to all 40 million California residents. From this point on through May 8th, only essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations remained open. Everything else closed. Professional sports were canceled. The people of California, the world's fifth largest economy, almost completely stopped driving for nearly two months. Demand for gasoline sunk and this set in motion a subsequent drop in gas prices. With the Bulls, Scottie Pippen Didn’t Get Paid Much But He Got the Rings

The new 10-episode series The Last Dance premiered on ESPN last Sunday. The second episode chronicled Scottie Pippen's frustration with the Bulls' management as the 1997-1998 NBA season started and the team began its defense of the title and quest for a sixth trophy. One of Pippen's main grievances was management's refusal to renegotiate his contract going into that final year. Pippen signed a contract for $18 million dollars over seven years in 1991. So he locked himself into a low risk, low return contract. At $18 million over 7 years, his average salary was $2,571,429 per year. By the time the 1997-1998 season started, Pippen had long been the second best player on the team. Along with Michael Jordan, Pippen was the only other Bull to have won five rings. ...

The Trump Presidency: It’s Like The Truman Show But with a Few Differences

Since reality TV star Donald Trump first announced he was running for president nearly four years ago up through the present day, the world has watched the longest, continuously running reality TV show. This has been an interesting and sometimes shocking show that has taken a dark turn in recent months. It begs the question: How's it going to end? Beginning in 1990 with his debut in the hit show In Living Color, Jim Carrey was a huge TV and movie star throughout the last decade of the 20th century. In 1998, he starred in the science-fiction film The Truman Show as the title character, Truman Burbank. Truman is a nice guy, a friendly man with a positive personality and a good career. He lives in an attractive home in the fictional town of Seahaven Island. He's married to his beau...
