Reading Time: 2 minutes

This blog previously posted about LA County’s COVID-19 cases peaking on April 4th. This was based on the County’s daily press releases reporting new infections. The Department of Public Health publishes these on their website.

On April 4th, the County reported 711 new cases. After that, new cases started trending downward, although the daily numbers varied widely through April 20th.

On April 20th, new cases rocketed into the quadruple digits hitting 1,491. Ironically, that was the same day this blog posted about the previous peak.

In the following days, the number of new cases stayed in the quadruple digits before falling to 607 on April 25th. After hitting a low of 440 on April 26, the numbers skyrocketed again, hitting a new peak of 1,541 on April 29th.

In the last four days, the numbers have swung down again. This past Monday, May 4th, the number of new cases fell to 568, which is higher than the previous low of 440 on April 26th.

LA County reported its first death from COVID-19 on March 11th. Ten days passed before it reported the second and third deaths on March 21st. Afterwards, the number of deaths climbed and peaked at 81 on April 18th. Since then, new deaths have slowly come down, averaging about 43 per day.

For the totals, this blog posted that LA County reported 12,341 cases and 600 deaths through April 19th. In the roughly two weeks since, the number of cases has doubled to 26,217 cases and 1,256 deaths.
